A stainless steel backed bushing with PTFE fabric on the sliding layer is a type of plain bearing that consists of a stainless steel backing and a layer of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) fabric on the sliding surface. The stainless steel backing provides a strong and durable support for the bearing, while the PTFE fabric acts as a low-friction sliding layer that reduces wear and tear on the bearing.

The PTFE fabric is a synthetic fluoropolymer material that is known for its excellent lubricating properties and resistance to wear and corrosion. It is also capable of operating over a wide range of temperatures and in harsh chemical environments.

The combination of the stainless steel backing and the PTFE fabric sliding layer makes this type of bearing ideal for applications where high load capacity and low friction are required. It is commonly used in a variety of industrial applications, including automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing equipment.

TX-316 – BEARING SECTION

The TX code identifies a family of self-lubricating bearings and washers that are specially manufactured with a bonding of a filled PTFE coated fabric (lead free, in accordance to the European Parliament “ELV” directive 2000/53/EC) on various baking metal layers like: carbon steel, bronze, stainless steel and Carbon steel S235 JR. The sliding surface is primarily composed of a filled PTFE coated fabric and other elements to guarantee the highest wear resistance. The TX products find their best usage in slow-moving applications.
With heavy loads. In dry operating conditions. Thanks to the thick self-lubricating layer up to 0.40 mm, this product has a high wear resistance and can work in dirty or abrasive environment.
For the TX type it is not recommended the use of oil, while the use of special greases such as silicon or lithium soap, is only possible during the assembly.

F51 is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex stainless steel used to solve the common corrosion problems encountered with 300 series stainless sheets of steel. Duplex” describes a range of stainless steels that are neither fully austenitic, nor 304 stainless steel, nor purely ferritic, such as 430 stainless steel. The structure of F51 duplex stainless steel consists of an austenitic pool surrounded by a continuous ferritic phase. In the annealed state, F51 contains about 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the workhorse grade, F51 is the most widely used grade in the duplex stainless steel family.

The advantage of the duplex structure is that it combines the excellent qualities of ferritic alloys (resistance to stress corrosion cracking and high strength) with the excellent qualities of austenitic alloys (ease of fabrication and corrosion resistance). The use of F51 duplex stainless steel should be limited to below 600°F. Extended high-temperature exposure can make F51 stainless steel brittle.

The unified number code name of China is S31603, the standard number is 022Cr17Ni12Mo2 (new standard), and the old number is 00Cr17Ni14Mo2, indicating that it mainly contains Cr, Ni, Mo, and the number represents the approximate percentage. The national standard is GB/T 20878-2007 (current version).

The difference discrimination

SUS316L stainless steel
SUS316L stainless steel
The most commonly used two kinds of stainless steel 304,316 (or corresponding to Germany/European standard 1.4308,1.4408), 316 and 304 in the chemical composition of the most important difference is that 316 contains Mo, and it is generally recognized that 316 corrosion resistance is better, more corrosion resistance than 304 in a high-temperature environment. Therefore, in a high-temperature environment, engineers generally choose parts made of 316 material. But there is no absolute matter, in a concentrated sulfuric acid environment, no matter how high the temperature is, do not use 316. Otherwise, this matter may be out of the big. Those of you who study mechanics have studied threads, and remember that molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), a black solid lubricant, is applied to prevent threads from biting at high temperatures. Two conclusions can be drawn from this: First, Mo is indeed a high-temperature substance (know what crucible gold is melted with? Molybdenum crucible!). Two: molybdenum is easy to react with high sulfur ions to produce sulfide. So no stainless steel is super resistant to corrosion. After all, stainless steel is just a piece of steel with more impurities (but those impurities are more resistant to corrosion than steel) that can react with other substances.

Corrosion resistance

316L is widely used in the chemical industry because of its excellent corrosion resistance. 316L is also derivative steel of 18-8 austenitic stainless steel, adding 2 ~ 3% Mo element. On the basis of 316L, many kinds of steel are derived, such as 316Ti after adding a small amount of Ti, 316N after adding a small amount of N, and 317L after increasing the content of Ni and Mo.
Most of the existing 316L on the market are produced in accordance with the American standard. Due to cost considerations, steel mills generally try to lower the Ni content of their products. The American standard stipulates that the Ni content of 316L is 10 ~ 14%, while the Japanese standard stipulates that the Ni content of 316L is 12 ~ 15%. According to the minimum standard, there is a 2% difference in Ni content between American standard and Japanese standard, which is reflected in the price is still quite huge. Therefore, customers still need to see clearly when choosing 316L products, whether the products refer to ASTM or JIS standards.
With 316L Mo content, the steel has excellent pitting resistance and can be safely applied to the environment containing Cl- and other halogen ions. Because 316L is mainly used for its chemical properties, steel mills have slightly lower requirements for surface inspection of 316L (compared with 304). Customers with higher surface requirements should strengthen the surface inspection.

Wear-resistant

Self-Lubricating Multilayer Composite Bushing is of excellent anti-abrasion performance, mainly due to the particular molecule structure of PTFE. The abrasion process can be generally divided into three phases, so there are kinds of friction coefficients. See the right graph:

1. “Running-in” phrase: PTFE compound on the bushing is transferred to its mating surface and forms a lubricating film. At this phase, the friction coefficient is bigger, thus the abrasion pace is very quick. See the curve shown in area I of the graph.
2. “Stabilization” abrasion phrase: After the “Running-in phase”, the friction happens between PTFE and PTFE, thus the friction coefficient is smaller and keeps steady. As a result, the wear rate is low and steady. See the curve shown in areaⅡof the graph.
3. “Sharp” abrasion phrase: As PTFE in the porous layer is slowly consumed up, not enough lubricant can be supplied to the gliding media. The friction coefficient and wear rate will rapidly rise. When 70% of the bronze surface is exposed, the service life of the Self-Lubricating Multilayer Composite Bushing closes to its end. See the curve shown in the area Ⅲof the graph.

Bearing Bushing Life Factors

1). PV Value
PV value is an effective criterion to calculate the service life of Self-Lubricating Multilayer Composite Bushing. If there is a need to prolong the service Life, PV value must be reduced.2). Ambient Temperature
The higher the working temperature is, the shorter the life of the products would be.3). Quality of the Mating Surface
Service life Self-Lubricating Multilayer Composite Bushing can be obviously prolonged if its mating axis is made by alloy steel or is plated by hard chrome and with surface Roughness Ra=0.4~0.63.
